      From Robert's email to odlparent-dev:

      This will be extremely important and downstream projects need to have a
      simple way of changing this, simply because it will keep the projects
      'loosely coupled' in that semantic patch releases (to fix upstream
      project bugs) can be delivered without recompling the downstream project.
