In certain circumstances, the error reporting for incorrect passwords emits the following: “opendaylight.aaa.api.AuthenticationException: User :admin does not exist in domain sdn” |

I believe this was because the username/password was given with incorrect spacing... i.e., "admin : admin" not "admin:admin". This would cause the username to be parsed as "admin " with a trailing space, which does not exist on the domain. |
