Errors appear in karaf.log and flows are not present in OVS [1] (Note: there are two more but I fixed them in my environment [2]. See OpenFlow 1.5 spec section 7.2.3.6 for info on prerequisits. Also, note that on the command line ovs-ofctl will not print an error if a prerequisite is missing but the flow will not be added.
