This public method exposes a view of the underlying implementation for use in AbstractImmutableDataContainerNodeBuilder. The way it is currently used is not efficient and furthermore leaks an implementation aspect. Define proper a proper interface between the two classes which will achieve the Builder's very specific use case. |

Actually, it can. We will not remove getChildren(), but leak the needed abstraction to perform the CoW operation. |
