In dynamic distribution, you start the Karaf instance with "boot" applications, and then you can (at runtime) deploy new applications in the running instance. You can also update the configuration, undeploy applications, etc., at runtime.
Static distribution is more of a kind of spring boot approach, and the main difference is that the resolution is made at build time, predictable. This approach is super light, standalone/immutable while supporting all Karaf features.
